History
The lumber yard and hardware store first opened it's doors in 1961 in Bend, a small Central Oregon town of about 12,000 residence. In 1966 Carl Backstrom and George Ray purchased the place from Dean Prett and his brother. During the 1970s the yard was expanded to included the truss plant and the Ray Building which was originally a Pepsi-Cola bottling plant. Doug Watson and John Saunders started work at Backstrom's in the mid 70's. By 1980 around 17,000 people called Bend home.
Sue Backstrom, Doug Watson, and John Saunders became co-owners of Backstrom's in 1986. Many of Backstrom's employees have enjoyed long careers with the company. As Bend has grown up around the yard, we have been there for it's needs. Backstrom's has built it's customer base through word of mouth and a stellar reputation.
Now with an estimated 75,000 people in our fair city, we continue to provide the best quality product and service in town.
